Travelmate Notebook Battery Care

Basic Battery Dos

  • Fully charge/discharge battery up to 4 cycles before achieving full capacity of a new battery.
  • Fully discharge/charge the battery every two/three weeks to maintain battery condition.

Basic Battery Don’ts

  • Do not leave the battery in notebook for extended periods, with the AC adapter attached.
  • Do not short-circuit.  A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery.
  • Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.
  • Do not expose the battery to moisture or rain.
  • Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat.  Do not incinerate.  Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion.

Charging/Discharging

The battery has reached full charge when the charge light on the notebook turns off.  Batteries should be discharged to the point of notebook shutdown.

Charging a New Battery

When charging a new battery for the first time, you may find the charge light turns off after
10 -15 mins - this is normal.  Simply remove the battery & re-insert it, and the charge cycle should start again. Repeat until the charge light turns off within 30 secs of inserting the battery.  This will ensure maximum charge capacity for your battery.  Once complete, fully discharge the battery by using the notebook, and repeat a few more times.

Mainly Mains Power Operation

If you use your notebook with the AC adapter attached most of the time there are a couple of measures that will improve battery life and performance:

  • Do not leave the notebook turned off with the AC adapter attached for extended periods -  although your notebook has intelligent communication with the battery, removing the AC adapter can help prevent overcharging.
  • Discharge/charge cycle the battery at least once a month.

Storage

Batteries should be stored in a cool, dry place.  Fully discharge your battery before storage.
If the battery is to be stored for an extended period, ensure it is charged/discharged at least once a month.
